AFRICAN UNION DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (AUDP)

United for a Sustainable Future
50 Years of the African Development Fund Making a Difference in Low Income and Fragile African Countries
Powering Progress, Building Futures
The African Union Development Project (AUDP) contributes to the promotion of economic and social development in least developed African countries by providing concessional funding for projects and programs, as well as technical assistance for studies and capacity-building activities.
We are transforming Africa's agricultural backbone from subsistence to prosperity. Our investments modernize farming with climate-resilient techniques, irrigation infrastructure, and access to markets. By supporting smallholder farmers and agribusinesses, we boost food security, create rural employment, and drive inclusive economic growth from the ground up.
Agriculture and Rural Development
Access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human right and a pillar of public health. The AUDP finances critical infrastructure—from urban treatment plants to community boreholes—ensuring reliable water for households, farms, and industries. Our projects combat disease, empower communities, and build resilience against droughts and climate change.
Water Supply & Sanitation
We are lighting up Africa and powering its industries. The AUDP funds a diverse energy mix, from massive solar farms and geothermal plants to regional grid interconnections. By expanding access to affordable, reliable, and clean electricity, we unlock potential, fuel economic activity, and connect communities to new opportunities.
Electricity/Power
Our focus is on moving Africa up the value chain. We finance projects that add value to the continent's vast natural resources, from mineral processing plants to manufacturing hubs. This strategic approach creates higher-skilled jobs, fosters economic diversification, and ensures that Africa's wealth generates lasting and equitable development.
Industry, Minning & Quarrying
Sustainable development is inseparable from environmental stewardship. The AUDP prioritizes projects that protect and restore Africa's natural capital—its forests, biodiversity, and landscapes. We fund climate change adaptation, conservation initiatives, and the transition to a circular economy, ensuring that progress today does not come at the expense of future generations.
Environment
The most complex challenges require integrated solutions. Our Multi-Sector portfolio funds large-scale, transformative projects that combine elements from several sectors. Examples include a green industrial park powered by its own renewable energy source with dedicated water treatment, or a rural development program linking agriculture, infrastructure, and clean energy into a single, resilient system.
